Organic September – What You Need to Know
Coliman Allfresch is proud to support Organic September. Organic September is a yearly month-long campaign led by the Soil Association. The campaign aims to encourage people to make small changes when it comes to their buying habits. As a result, Organic September educates on the benefits of organic food and farming processes.
Why Go Organic?
Organic means working with nature, not against it, with products made using the most environmentally friendly farming and production methods possible. It guarantees the highest standards of animal welfare, restrictions on the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides by farmers and forbids the use of GM crops and ingredients too.
An increasing number of people are buying organic produce. Research from the Soil Association shows an increase in 20% in the number of people buying organic products, from food to health and beauty items.
Organic September
This year, Organic September has a particular emphasis on activism. If focuses on how buying, growing or choosing organic food has a halo of positive effects on the natural world. These benefits include a positive impact on the soil, wildlife, and slowing down climate change. Organic September comes after a year of grassroots environmental activism, such as the youth climate strikes and Extinction Rebellion. A number of ground-breaking reports linking climate change with land, farming and diets have also been released, and the impact of food on the natural world has also been highlighted.
The campaign also dispels four popular myths about organic:
– Organic can’t feed the world
– It is unnecessarily expensive
– Organic is unscientific.
– It isn’t as good for the environment as going vegan.
Do you want to ‘Go Organic’ but find the thought of changing all your everyday products too daunting? Why not try to replace just one of your everyday items each month with an organic one instead? As well as food items, you could also replace beauty products, household cleaning goods, and even clothing.
