Make Organic September Everyday
This week marks the start of the Organic September a campaign aimed at promoting the benefits and the positive impact of purchasing organic products.
Previous years have been very successful. To date, the Soil Association has proven that by educating and inspiring consumers about organic produce, we can make a difference.
“The campaign has proven to be extremely successful with sales of organic produce up by 7.1% in September 2017 compared to 4.2% from January- August 2017.” Soil Association
Organic September Campaign Impact
For us and our partners, this impact is very positive. As a group, we import up to 45 containers of organic bananas every week from producers in Mexico, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. It is our combined aim to bring organic and Fairtrade varieties into the mainstream, making them the consumers choice every time!
What is Organic?
Organic farming methods minimise the human impact on the environment. Standard practices include wide crop rotations, limits on the use of chemicals and pesticides, use of natural fertilisers and selection of species that are adapted to local conditions.
“Put simply; organic farming is an agricultural system that seeks to provide the consumer, with fresh, tasty and authentic food while respecting natural life-cycle systems.” Organic EU
It is because of these production processes that organic produce often costs that little bit more to buy, but wouldn’t you rather know that as a consumer you are contributing towards a more sustainable food system?
Organic Certified Bananas
Organic produce is certified and offers consumers food assurance. This means that consumers can be certain that the certified bananas that they are eating have been produced using natural processes, that inevitably have less impact on their bodies and the environment.
Organic Bananas Every day
There are an estimated 100 billion bananas consumed around the world every day, and in 2016 it was recorded that 6.1 million tonnes of organic bananas were imported into Europe alone!
While sales of organic and Fairtrade varieties are increasing year on year across the world, together we need to continue the fight to make organic bananas, an everyday purchase.
